Shen Yao-Yi is a contemporary Chinese artist born in Shanghai in 1943. A graduate of the Li Hua Illustration Studio in the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China, he has spent the past five decades serving as a professor and doctoral advisor at several leading universities across China, shaping generations of young artists. Renowned for his impeccable technique, Shen’s oil paintings—created from the 1970s to today—capture the richness of Chinese history and the nuances of everyday life. His recent Red Ribbon of the Earth series, comprising 926 illustrations, further demonstrates his deep commitment to storytelling through art and his mastery of visual expression. Throughout his distinguished career, Shen Yao-Yi has produced numerous masterpieces that blend technical excellence with profound cultural insight.
